TYPES OF COMPUTERS
MICRO COMPUTERS
These computers are designed for personal use, that's why they are also called Personal Computers ( PC ). Micro computers are small in size and mainly used in schools, homes, offices, shops, banks, etc.
Some micro computers are:
1) Desktop
2) Laptop
3) Tablet
4) Palmtop.
MINI COMPUTERS
Mini computers are bigger in size than the micro computers. These computers are capable to support about 4 to 200 users simultaneously. These computers have higher processing speed and are costlier than micro computers. They are used in big organizations.
Some mini computers are:
1) PDP-8
2) MicroVAX 3100
3) HP 2100.
MAINFRAME COMPUTERS
They are designed to tackle huge amount of data and are big in size with large memory and high speed. They are very powerful computers. Mainframe computers can used by more than 100 users simultaneously. They are very much expensive and are mainly used for bulk data processing in large business organisations, banks, laboratories, universities, airlines and railway ticket reservations, stock exchange markets, etc.
Some micro computers are:
1) IBM Z series
2) PDP-10 and System Z10.
SUPER COMPUTERS
Super computers are used for weather forecasting, satellite control, space research, etc. They are the most powerful computers with a huge processing speed.
Some super computers are:
1) PARAM
2) CRAY-1
3) CRAY-2
4) Tianhe-2.
