DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MASS AND WEIGHT FOR CLASS 9 AND 10 PHYSICS

What is the difference between mass and weight ?

DISTINGUISH BETWEEN MASS AND WEIGHT

MASS

  1. It is the amount of matter contained in a body.
  2. It is a constant quantity and does not change w.r.t. position or place.
  3. Mass of a body can never be zero.
  4. It is measured by using a physical (beam) balance.
  5. It is measured in kilogram.

WEIGHT

  1. It is a force equal to the gravitational pull exerted by the Earth on the body.
  2. It is a variable quantity and changes with the change in acceleration due to gravity of a place.
  3. Weight of the body can be zero at free fall.
  4. It is measured by using a spring balance.
  5. It is measured in newton or kilogram force.
